Ceiba Crow's "Our Mother"
Artist Statement
This piece represents our mother earth and the devastation she is facing. She is rising up from flames and pollution, trying to protect our precious planet.
I used a mix of natural and artificial materials to give the painting texture and bring it to life. The main medium is acrylic paint and I incorporated found and recycled materials. The clouds are made with plastic from the canvas’s packaging. And the lichens, mica, feathers, shells, and soil I collected from the forest by my house and other adventures in nature.
I want this piece to emphasize the beauty of mother earth but also a sense of urgency. With the climate crisis progressing at an alarming rate, we must make drastic changes soon or risk destroying even more of our beautiful planet. As a young person on this planet, it can be very difficult to stay hopeful when I see how little actions are being made by the people in power to slow down the effects of climate change. However, I know there are so many people who are willing to put in the work for a more sustainable future and I know Earth is resilient. Even amid so much destruction, there is still hope.
